The Board’s priority for 1 July 2017 is to ensure this happens with minimal disruption to urban and rural fire services’ response capability. Full integration, of systems, tools, and process, will take place over the next four years.
The Fire and Emergency NZ Bill proposes that responsibility for rural fires will be transferred from territorial authorities (in their own right, or as members of enlarged rural fire district committees) to Fire and Emergency NZ, from 1 July 2017.
